Everyone knows the popular Pinterest. Everything revolves around collecting inspiration, from recipes to fashion. Recently, a new social network has appeared on the web: Luvocracy. This is a similar concept to Pinterest, only Luvocracy does not focus on dreaming, but on buying.

Luvocracy is a social network in the making. It was founded in 2012 by . When the two gentlemen met, they were both thinking deeply about the future of commerce. They believed that there was an opportunity to create something new by using technology and allowing people to earn rewards for doing what they do best. This gave birth to the concept of Luvocracy, based on the idea behind word-of-mouth advertising . People are often more likely to buy a product that is recommended by someone they know, because they tend to trust this type of advertising more. This makes word-of-mouth advertising very effective. It is therefore smart that Luvocracy plays into this form of advertising with its strategy.

Luvocracy: concept & features

To give you a good idea of ​​Luvocracy I registered myself on the website and tried out all the features. The home screen of the website looks well organized and  list to data minimalistic and above all: it works. At the top of the page there is a box in which the goal of the website is made clear with the words ‘Recommended with taste’. Below that the user is guided through the process with the keywords ‘Love it, Live it, Luvocracy’ and next to this explanation are the buttons to log in or to register. If you scroll down you will see a preview of what awaits you.

To register, you have to click on the ‘Request an Invite’ button. That sounds a bit crazy, but Luvocracy states that the world is built on the recommendations of people you trust. In order to register, you have to know someone on the website. But don’t worry: even if none of your friends have discovered Luvocracy yet, you will still have an invitation in your inbox the next day. If it is confirmed that you want to become part of the Luvocracy community, you can start recommending and buying products. During my research, I discovered that Luvocracy uses a unique tone of voice with which they try to create a good bond with the users.

Your profile

After registering, you will arrive at your own profile page during your first visit. You can of course adjust the appearance of this page as you wish. On the clean email page you will see by default the products that you have recommended, which products you have ‘liked’ and which people you trust.

The trust
The first thing Luvocracy asks for are the names of people whose taste you really admire. You need to ‘trust’ these people. You do this by clicking the ‘Trust’ button under someone’s name. This means that you trust their taste in a certain category (for example, entertainment or men’s fashion). These people become  revolutionizing customer acquisition your tastemakers and their recommendations help you buy better things. The products that your friends recommend will be included in your personal catalog.
